Did Grocery Store Joe Redeem Himself?

New York Night rocked Dancing With the Stars Monday night, and it gave these celebrities a lot to work with as they adapted to the scores from last week.

To the surprise of nobody, Joe Amabile managed to improve. Was there really any other way for him to go after that dud last week?!

Let’s break down the performances!

DeMarcus Ware and Lindsay Arnold

DeMarcus and Lindsay were both up in arms about dancing the Foxtrot to "Boy from New York City" because they were worried it would be difficult because DeMarcus is tall as hell.

It’s not known to be the best dance for someone of his size, but they decided to roll with it.

Who says it’s not worth taking some risks? In this case, it worked out, and the judges were over the moon with it.

Judges’ Score: 24/30

Danelle Umstead and Artem Chigvintsev

Danelle and Artem danced the cha-cha to "Welcome to New York," and it was yet another memorable performance.

Artem opted to craft a whole new routine for his dancing partner that would include her walking cane. Artem has been known to adapt well, and he’s certainly doing his best to make Danelle feel relaxed.

There were some rough points throughout the performance that likely hindered her overall score, but she managed to recover from it in a big way.

Judges’ Score: 18/30

John Schneider and Emma Slater

Despite being the one we expected to spring a leak early into the season, Schneider and Slater’s Charleston to "New York’s My Home" by Sammy Davis Jr. was an energetic number that shocked everyone in the studio.

Who would have thought it? Not us. This dude might actually win the whole thing.

Judges’ Score: 23/30

Nancy McKeon and Val Chmerkovskiy

Nancy found herself in trouble after last week’s performances: She suffered the dreaded fractured foot!

It’s not uncommon for it to happen on a show that finds celebrities stretching every single part of their bodies for good scores.

The surprising thing here is that Nancy and Val managed to dance despite the physical issue that was set out in front of them.

Their Cha Cha to "Uptown Girl" by Billy Joel was a real surprise.

Judges Score: 21/30

Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten

Alexis shocked everyone during her first performance last week. Viewers may have been racking their brains trying to figure out who the heck she was, but she could dance.

Her latest effort with Alan involved dancing the Argentine Tango to "Swan Lake" by Ray Chew Live. It was filled with set pieces that would make you think you were watching a seasoned veteran.

The judges seemed to think so and let them know with generous scores.

Judges’ Score: 25/30

Joe Amabile and Jenna Johnson

Joe never could win The Bachelorette, and the chances are that he won’t win Dancing with the Stars, either, but the improvement week-to-week for him is commendable.

He went with the Foxtrot to "New York State of Mind" by Matt Beilis. While there’s improvement in his movement, he’s still the weakest competitor on the show.

But with Bachelor Nation saving him, it should give him time to improve. Beyond that, he won’t make it to the finale.

Judges’ Score: 17/30

Tinashe and Brandon Armstrong

Tinashe is a well-known recording artist who knows how to dance. It makes sense then that she’s one of the favorites to win.

Monday’s episode found her doing the Argentine Tango to "New Dorp. New York" by SBTRKT. It was another energetic performance that found Tinashe being thrown around the stage.

It was a hit with the judges.

Judges’ Score: 26/30

Milo Manheim and Witney Carson

Disney stars have a good track record on this series, and with Milo turning in a solid number last week, the only way was up.

He and Witney went with the Charleston to "Living in New York City" by Robin Thicke. They have a lot of chemistry, and can both dance very well.

This subway-themed number was not perfect, but it was up there as one of the best of the night.

Judges’ Score: 26/30

Mary Lou Retton and Sasha Farber

Talk about improvement! Mary continued to go from strength-to-strength with Sasha in the ballroom and proved that they are a force to be reckoned with.

Mary Lou felt really strongly about performing the Waltz to "A Natural Woman" live performance by Sarah Bockel from "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical."

Judges’ Score: 22/30

Juan Pablo Di Pace and Cheryl Burke

Juan brought his A-game to the ballroom room on Monday night. With a well-choreographed Quickstep to "42nd Street" by Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, this duo turned in a performance that was filled with finesse, and elegance.

These are ones to watch, you guys!

Judges’ Score: 26/30

Evanna Lynch and Keo Motsepe

Evanna’s nerves hindered her performance last week, but she brought a lot more to the table this week. There was class, solid dancing, and a whole lot of great moments.

She and Keo went with the Samba to "Can’t Touch It" by Ricki-Lee, and there was a vast improvement week-to-week.

Judges’ Score: 24/30

Bobby Bones and Sharna Burgess

Bobby was the surprise of premiere week, but his latest number left a lot to be desired. It was the Foxtrot "Theme from New York, New York" by Frank Sinatra.

He likes to put on a show, but there was no improvement week-to-week, and that could be rather problematic when you consider the fact that the others are improving.

Judges’ Score: 20/30.
